SI Shakespearean Theatre was founded in 1975 by a dedicated group of volunteers with the mission of providing "high quality live theatre for the community of Staten Island and to offer a creative outlet for performers, directors and designers who choose to make that community their home".
The company is an Actors Equity approved Showcase company that has produced almost 200 productions in its history. It has received funding from The New York State Council on the Arts, The New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, The Office of the Borough President of Staten Island, JP Morgan Chase Foundation,The Council on the Arts and Humanities for Staten Island and numerous corporate and individual donors. SIST is a federally recognized 501 c 3 charitable organization.
